Information for Schools
Arts-rich schools are effective schools. The arts transform schools and the learning process, breathing life into instruction and teaching to the whole child. KID smART works with schools to achieve three goals:
• To increase student engagement in learning in and through the arts;
• To increase teacher efficacy through their use of arts integrated instructional practice;
• To strengthen positive school cultures through joyful learning at all levels of the school.
Arts rich schools require commitment to a process. KID smART does not have a one-size-fits all, pre-packaged program for schools. We collaborate with school leaders to develop an arts integration plan in the context of their needs and goals. Similarly, classroom residencies are planned with teachers to gain maximum impact from arts integration on their instructional practice and their students’ success across the curriculum. Our professionals become a part of the school team in partnering schools. Schools commit to work with the KID smART process over time to achieve and sustain transformative goals.
START smART: One way schools can explore the process and make an informed decision regarding participation is through START smART. This sampling of The KID smART Model provides a five week teaching artist residency and an arts integration professional development opportunity for schools.
