  • The Communications Director is in charge of all internal and external communications, ensuring that KID smART’s messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with our values of collaboration, creativity, equity, and sustainability. The Communications Director is a visual and written content storyteller who works in close collaboration with all departments, the Executive Director, Board, and volunteers. The Communications Director will develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan to meet the organization’s engagement and financial needs. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the nonprofit's objectives by effectively communicating its impact, programs, and initiatives to various audiences.

    RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB POSITION

    Communications Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Marketing and Public Relations Strategy

    • Develop and implement a strategic communication plan aligned with KID smART's mission, goals, and target audience.

    • Maintain an 18-month institutional marketing calendar and monthly marketing report

    • Create compelling messaging and narratives that effectively communicate the organization's impact, programs, and success stories.

    • Manage KID smART's digital presence, including the website, social media channels, and email newsletters, ensuring content is engaging, timely, and aligned with brand identity.

    • Monitor and analyze communication metrics to assess the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.

    • Manage marketing and visibility budgets, including ad spend, Google ads, etc.

    • Collaborate with Development/ Education/ Executive Director to develop and manage communication materials, such as brochures, annual reports, and promotional materials, ensuring consistency and quality.

    • Work closely with PR firm to cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure press coverage and increase visibility.

    • Prepare staff for media interviews and appearances.

    • Support KID smART fundraisers and events with design of print materials, marketing, PR, and on-site support

    • As needed, serve as a spokesperson for the organization, representing its mission and values in public appearances, interviews, and speaking engagements.

    Design and Brand Direction

    • Develop brand guidelines and strategies, ensuring published materials adhere to and enhance KID smART brand

    • In-house design of internal and external communications including in-school visibility materials, newsletters, programming and fund development collateral, advertisements, reports, etc.

    • Photograph KID smART programming and events for use in marketing collateral

    • Work as primary contact with designers, videographers, web developers, etc. as needed for projects

    Program Support

    • Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, testimonials, and other content to showcase the nonprofit's work and impact.

    • Market programs to potential partners and clients for earned income

    • Manage visibility and documentation for Creative Schools including blog, school newsletters, posters, banners, yard signs, etc.

    • Support Teaching Artists with technology and documentation

    • Support KID smART programmatic events as needed

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The successful candidate will have the following experience:

    • Master's degree in Communications, Design, Marketing, or a related field.

    • 5+ years communications, marketing or public relations or related experience

    • Mastery of industry-standard software (e.g., Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, digital content management systems, etc)

    • Excellent skills in communication, digital marketing, social media management, data analysis, and project management

    • Passion for the organization’s mission and willingness to learn the principles of arts integration and the KID smART theory of change.

    • Experience working in educational settings preferred.

    • Detailed, organized, goal oriented, enthusiastic, and collaborative individual with a proven capacity to work in a fast paced office while exercising independent judgment and maintaining a joyful approach to projects.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    This is a full time, in-person position with a competitive salary of $75,000. Benefits include fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 17 paid holidays, matching 3% IRA, annual PD budget, and generous accrued PTO.

    REPORTING STRUCTURE

    The Communications Director reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Development Director, Education Director, and Board.
