Explore strategies to deepen engagement and enhance students’ learning comprehension in English Language Arts through visual literacy and visual storytelling. Learn steps for translating written imagery into visual imagery using basic photography techniques. This creative engagement technique can be used with a wide variety of texts across curriculum. Participants will complete connected learning activities that cover the processes of planning, creating and reflecting on a visual poem. You will leave this workshop comfortable with the basic skills, vocabulary and tools of photography and understand how to facilitate visual poetry in your classrooms.
